Our History
My name is MacKenzie (Bowden) Knierim. I am the owner, buyer, and CEO of The Southern Rose, which makes me sound a lot fancier than I really am. I began in the retail sector (specifically gift) as a young high-school student working for a local gift shop. I wasn’t 100% sure of the degree I wanted but knew I loved meeting people and helping them find unique items for gifts or for themselves. After high school, I headed off to continue playing softball at William Woods University in Fulton, MO. While attending WWU, I studied Business Management with concentrations in Marketing and Advertising. I completed my Masters in Business Administration through WWU in 2015.
After graduating in 2014, I began working for Veterans United Home Loans in Columbia, MO.
On the side, I ran a small shop many of you remember as “Wild Rose.” It’s hard to believe this crazy, big dream of mine began in my parent’s basement while I milked out the “free rent” as long as possible. Ah, the good ‘ol days! ;)
The Southern Rose Monogram & Gift opened in August 2016 - after years of hard work and research. In all honesty, we thought we knew what we were doing then.... but we've learned A LOT along the way. I (MacKenzie) got married in 2017, had my son Knox in early 2019, and then expanded and opened our baby store Rosebuds later that year. We added another new addition, my daughter Kramer in 2021. Between the two stores and the two kids, you could say the Knierim family is busy. We are so grateful to each of our shoppers that come by the storefront or make a purchase online.
